Antique map of Belgium, published in the Nouvelle Geographie Et Statistique De La France, Alger Et La Belgique, Suivie D'Un Traite Sur Le Monde Entier... 1842 (5th edition) by Alexandre Corbin. The area was captured by the French during the French Revolutionary Wars and incorporated into the French First Republic from roughly 1794 to 1815. In the aftermath of Napoleon's final defeat in 1815, the Congress of Vienna added the territory of Belgium to the United Kingdom of the Netherlands. In 1830, with the Belgian Revolution, the Belgian provinces declared their independence, which was recognized by the great powers in 1839. Shows cities, towns, Post Roads, canals, and more. Very good antique condition with some minor stains mostly in the margins. Paper is lightweight and the text on verso is slightly visible but this can be reduced by backing with a black backing when framing. Measures approx. 9 x 13 inches to the neatline.
