Antique map of Westmorland, by Robert Morden, first published in 1695 and again in 1722. Westmorland or Westmoreland is an area of North West England which was historically a county. The area included part of the Lake District and the southern Vale of Eden, and its inhabitants were known as Westmerians. This map is from the 1722 edition of Camden's "Britannia: Or a Chorographical Description of Great Britain and Ireland Together with the Adjacent Islands..." Map shows towns, villages, roads, and more. Topographic information is depicted pictorially. Impressive cartouche. Very good condition with minor signs of age, such as toning and some slight image loss in the borders. Center fold as issued. Measures approx. 14.25 x 16.5 inches to the neatline. This map appears to have been restored (cleaned, flattened) by a previous owner.
