Genuine Antique Hand-Colored Map
1838 / 1846
Maker: Bradford.
Antique hand-colored map of Indiana with counties delineated by color. This map was published by Bradford in his Universal Illustrated Atlas, which was first printed in 1838, with editions in the years following until 1848. All of the maps in these atlases have the same year printed in the lower left, regardless of the actual year of publication, and this map may be slightly later based on the numerous railroads shown. It is also possible that these railroads existed in 1838 as horse-drawn railways and were later used as locomotive railroads (the first horse-drawn railroad in the US was made in 1810). Shows the original shapes of Newton and Jasper Counties. Beautiful original color. Fair to good overall antique condition, with some small stains, some horizontal creases, some tears at the paper edges, one of which goes slightly into the map on the right side. Should still look good framed- a mat can cover the paper edges. Measures approx. 14.25 x 11.25 inches.
Genuine Antique Map from 1838.
