Antique map of California, Nevada, Utah, Colorado, New Mexico, and Arizona. Published in 1863 at the height of the civil war. Unusual early territory boundaries, with New Mexico and Arizona extending east-west. Arizona is shown as a small strip below New Mexico, and is labelled "Arrizona or the Gadsden Ten Million Purchase of Mexico". Original hand-coloring, good detail of landforms, water bodies, and towns. Published in Johnson's Illustrated Family Atlas, 1863. Approx. 17 x 24 inches to the outer part of the decorative border, with some parts of the map extending beyond.
