Genuine Antique Hand Colored Map
1864
Maker: A.J. Johnson.
Antique hand colored comparative map, showing the comparative lengths of rivers and heights of mountains for each continent (except Australia). At this time Mount Everest's height had been calculated and the source of the Nile had been identified but was currently under dispute. Lake Victoria was found by Europeans in 1858 but not confirmed as the source of the Nile until 1875. This map was copyrighted by A.J. Johnson in 1864. Very good antique condition with slight seam separation that has been repaired, a few small repaired tears at the edges, as well as light overall toning. Approx. 23" x 17" to the neatline.
