Maker: Reproduction.
High-quality hand-printed and hand colored reproduction of an antique map of North America and the Caribbean by Guglielmo Sansone from circa 1687. Features California as an island, and the north west of the continent partially guessed and blank. Includes the suggestion of Greenland being attached to North America. The Hudson Bay is called Mar Christiano, and the St Lawrence flows to the interconnected Great Lakes. With some speculative topography and a decorative border. Made using a combination of modern technology and traditional methods, wherein an original is scanned, its likeness is digitally etched onto an engraving plate, then the plate is used to print the image in the traditional way, with a printing press. It is then hand-colored. Visible plate mark. Approx. 15.25 x 21 inches to the border. Paper may be larger but can be trimmed as needed. Has some imperfections to make it look more authentic.
