Genuine Antique Map

1722

Maker: Morden.

The County Palatine of Lancaster. Antique map of Lancashire, England, by Morden, first published in 1695 and again in 1722. This map is from the 1722 edition of Camden's "Britannia: Or a Chorographical Description of Great Britain and Ireland Together with the Adjacent Islands..." This map shows the county of Lancashire as a palatine, that is, under the local rule of the Earl of Lancaster, with cities and towns, churches, cathedrals, parks, rivers, bays, forests and hills, with some early bathymetry of shoals and sandbars in the Irish Sea. It includes some areas around modern Lancashire that are not part of the county, including the Furness peninsula and Liverpool (spelled Leverpole on the map). Prominent cartouche. Very good condition, with minor signs of age, such as toning and some slight image loss in the borders. Center fold as issued. Measures approx. 16.5 x 14.5 inches.

Genuine Antique Map from 1722.
