Genuine Antique Celestial "Hold-to-Light"

1862

Maker: Wilhelm Nitzchke.

Celestial map from the French version of the Astronomischer Bilder Atlas, from Wilhelm Nitzschke, 1862. This print focuses on the sun with diagrams of how the sun's position changes in different seasons, the sizes of the planets compared with the sun, and solar eclipses. This is a "Hold-to-Light". When held up to a light or a window, the halo around the large eclipsed sun appears illuminated. Backed with yellow parchment. Very good overall antique condition with some minor surface soil and slight foxing, 11.5 x 9.5 inches to the page edges. **SOLD**
