Genuine Antique Hand Colored Map

Maker: Poirson.

Antique hand colored maps by Poirson, 1804. The map on the top of the sheet depicts the world in a Pacific centered view and includes topography. This was published before Lewis and Clark and it includes the Great Lakes and the Mountains of the Moon (which don't really exist) in Africa. The lower map shows the north and south polar regions with the poles marked. The polar maps include the routes of famous expeditions by explorers like Captain Cook and Captain Phips. Good antique condition with some mild foxing and staining. Visible plate mark. Center fold as issued. Approx. 20 x 15.5 inches to the neatline.
