Genuine Antique Lithograph Print

1882

Maker: Albert F. Poole

Antique bird's eye view engraved print of Provincetown, MA by A.F. Poole, 1882. This handsome print shows Provincetown as seen from the direction of Long Point, looking northeast across the harbor, with the town behind the famous wharves. Behind it the dunes of the Outer Cape stretch into the distance, with the Atlantic Ocean in the far background. At the time of publication, Provincetown was in the midst of an economic boom, catalyzed by the completion of the Old Colony Railroad in 1873. This print features the many churches of the town, the high school building, and the town hall that had burned in 1877. Text at bottom corresponds to numbers throughout the map pointing out notable buildings and wharves. This is an interesting and unusual version of this print because many other editions indicate the lithographer and publisher in the right and left corners under the image, but no such mentions appear on this print. Very good restored condition, this print has been cleaned, deacidified, and backed. Some minor signs of age remain. Measures approx. 17 x 36 inches to the paper edges. ***Note: this item will require additional insurance above what is included with the shipping as calculated by our website- we will send an invoice for the additional cost before shipping***
