Antique leather-bound book by Abel Bowen, published by Otis, Broaders and Co, Boston, 1838. This detailed book from the early 1800s features engravings that illustrate the contents. Sections include Boston Athenaeum, Periodicals, Societies, Churches, Places of Amusement, Anniversaries, Recent and Projected Improvements, Ancient Buildings, Annals of Boston, and an index, with many other subjects covered. Includes two small fold-out maps: Boston (this was 20+ years before Back Bay was filled) and Boston and Environs. This fascinating old book is in poor original condition, with foxing throughout, darker toning on the maps, and the front cover detached, but it is whole and could be restored for an additional cost. Book measures approx. 6.25 x 3.75 inches.
