Maker: Raymond Lufkin
Antique printed color pictorial map of Massachusetts, by Raymond Lufkin, 1930. This orange, blue, and white map notes the locations of many historical homes (Paul Revere House, John Adams House, John Bradford House, etc.) and includes a quote attributed to Governor Dudley, as well as many unattributed quotes and one "from an old letter." There are illustrations of colonists alongside caricatures of natives, a few animals, and ships on the water with a whale and a sea monster. A scene of men building houses surrounds the title. The illustrated border is filled with various historical scenes alongside accompanying unattributed quotes, such as, "Comes to Salem in 1797 ye first circus," and, "Set on ye ducking stool for that he lied about seeing a whale." On verso is a list of "Colonial Prototypes of House Beautiful Houses Built in the Years 1636-1820" in alphabetical order, with information regarding the houses and exhibition times and fees at the time of publication. Very good antique condition overall with some extremely mild roughing of the outer edges of the paper. Center fold, as issued. Measures approximately 11.5" x 17.75" to the outer edge of the decorative border.
