Hand colored antique coast report chart from 1853 by the U.S. Coast Survey showing Minots Ledge off Boston Harbor. Shows Cohasset Harbor and Old Harbor, as well as several saltworks and a marine railroad (railroad tracks that go directly into the water, in order to allow a rail car to go into the water and under a boat, which is secured to the car and both are removed from the water, allowing work to be done on the boat). Also includes information on islands, rivers, water depths, and shoals. At top and bottom are profile views of the Outer and Inner Minots including water depths. Very good restored condition. This chart has been restored- cleaned and rebacked - and then hand colored. Paper has some waviness, especially at bottom, that might be improved by framing. Approx. 20 x 20 inches to the neatline.
