Antique Map of North America from Smith's Atlas Designed to Accompany the Geography, by R.C. Smith, published by Paine & Burgess, 1839. This map captures a unique moment in the history of North America, when Texas was a republic, Russia owned Alaska, the United States had contested claims with Britain on the West Coast and in Maine, and Mexico still owned California and other south western states. Shows Texas with its "stovepipe shape." Good antique condition with some minor stains, some minor damage at the edges. Measures approx. 11.5 x 9.5 inches to the paper edges.
