Antique nautical chart of most of the US Atlantic coast, Drawn and Engraved by Charles Copley, Published by E & GW Blunt, 1846. According to the title, "Every Authentic Survey, American, English & Spanish, Has Been Used In The Construction Of This Chart." This long chart is comprised of multiple sheets joined into one chart. Mariners apparently favored long charts such as this because it allowed them to unroll only the pertinent section needed for their location. This chart covers from Point Judith, Rhode Island to Cuba and includes Long Island, much of Chesapeake Bay, the Outer Banks of North Carolina and the entire peninsula of Florida. It has 9 inset charts of various harbors and areas: a very large, detailed chart of New York Harbor; Absecum Shoals (Absecon) or the coast between Long Beach Island and Cape May in New Jersey; Cape Fear; Cape Hatteras; Cape Lookout; A Plan of the Entrance of Winyaw Bay, George Town S.C.(Winyah Bay SC); Lewistown Bay (Lewes DE and Cape Henlopen); Bald Head and Oak Island NC; and a large harbor chart and street plan of Havana. Good to very good restored condition. This chart has been cleaned, deacidified and backed but retains some stains that were unable to be lifted. Also includes some plotting by a sailor who used the chart. Measures approx. 28.5 x 129 inches. A long chart such as this would be ideal framed on the wall behind a long couch or desk.
