Maker: Harper's Weekly
Antique black and white engraved illustration, drawn by A. W. Thompson and published in the June 13, 1868 edition of Harper's Weekly Magazine, showing a view of the proposed Hudson Highland Suspension Bridge which was to be built between Fort Clinton and Anthony's Nose. Attempts to build the railway bridge were unsuccessful for many decades, and ultimately the project turned into the Bear Mountain Bridge, which was built for use by automobiles and formally opened in 1924. The scene in front of the bridge is peaceful, with figures in sailboats and rowboats traveling along the water. Very good antique condition with mild toning and some minor creasing/wrinkling of the paper. The "Harper's Weekly" title has been cut off the side, with the date of the edition left there. Page measures approximately 8.25" x 15" overall.
