Maker: Virtue
Antique print from the Atlas to Barclay's Universal English Dictionary, Newly Revised by B.B. Woodward, published by Virtue & Company circa 1850. Undated. This print features William II, byname William Rufus, French Guillaume Le Roux, (born c. 1056—died 1100), son of William I the Conqueror and king of England from 1087 to 1100; he was also de facto duke of Normandy (as William III) from 1096 to 1100. He prevented the dissolution of political ties between England and Normandy, but his strong-armed rule earned him a reputation as a brutal, corrupt tyrant. Very good antique condition, backed on fabric with some minor spots and stains. Measures approx. 11 x 8.5 inches to the paper edges.
