Genuine Antique Hand Colored Map

1876

Maker: Walker and Pease.

Antique map from the Atlas of Bergen Co. New Jersey, 1876, by Walker and Pease. Double-sided page with centerfold map of Part of Tenafly, near Knickerbocker, Jeffson and Hickory, Aves. Also a map of Cresskill with Demarest, Overton and New Milford maps on reverse. Overton was a development that is now in New Milford between Madison Ave and Demarest Ave. Good to very good overall antique condition with some minor smudges and stains. Approximately 16 x 26 inches.

From Wikipedia: Tenafly was incorporated as a borough on January 24, 1894 from portions of the now-defunct Palisades Township. The borough was the first formed during the "Boroughitis" phenomenon then sweeping through Bergen County, in which 26 boroughs were formed in the county in 1894 alone. Portions of Palisades Township were acquired based on legislation approved on April 8, 1897. Demarest was formed by an act of the New Jersey Legislature on April 8, 1903, from portions of Harrington Township and Palisades Township. New Milford was authorized to be incorporated as a borough on March 11, 1922, from what remained of Palisades Township. With the creation of New Milford, Palisades Township (which had been created in 1871) was dissolved.
