Antique comparative map of Humboldt's Distribution of Plants in Equinoctial America, According to Elevation Above the Level of Sea, compares plants and mountains using Humboldt's Life Zones. Humboldt observed that as you climb a mountain in the tropics, the plant species change dramatically with increasing altitude, creating distinct vegetation belts, like the "Tierra Caliente" (hot land) at low elevations, "Tierra Templada" (temperate land) at mid-levels, and "Tierra Fria" (cold land) at high altitudes. In English, from Black's atlas, black & white, 10"h x 14"w, plate engraved by Aikman, very good condition.
