Maker: Bouchard

Antique botanical print of a crosswort plant with tiny yellow flowers, from Hortus Romanus, compiled by N. Martinelli (although often attributed to Bonelli—a physician and professor of medicine in Rome who contributed only a brief introductory text to Vol. I), engraved by Maddelana Bouchard, published circa 1775. Hortus Romanus was published in 8 volumes between 1772-1792. This delicate plant print features original hand-coloring. Large format antique botanical prints are somewhat scarce. Copper plate print on laid paper. Visible plate mark. Very good antique condition with a horizontal wrinkle through the center. Measures approx. 13.5 x 9 inches to the border. Paper size is approx. 21.5 x 15.5 inches.
