Plan of the City and Castle of Alicant, besieged by the Chevalier D' Asfeldt Nov. 30th 1708 and surrendered by capitulation Apr. 19th 1709.

 

Antique black and white battle plan map of the city and castle in Alicante, Spain, during the War of the Spanish Succession. From "The History of England, by Mr. Rapin de Thoyras. Continued from the Revolution [of 1688] to the Accession of King George II by N. Tindal" published in 1745. Engraved by I. Basire. The decorative cartouche holds the scale and the key to the letters and numbers on the map is at the upper right. The Allies took Alicante in November 1708 and the French recaptured it in April 1709. Very good condition with some small archivally repaired tears at the paper edges. Folds as issued. Some slight image transfer or ghosting. Approx. 14 x 18.75 inches to the neatline. Page size is approx. 16 x 20
