Maker: Reproduction.
High-quality hand-printed reproduction of an antique map of the world by Homann, this is the earlier 1707 version. Shows the world in hemispheres as well as the northern and southern celestial hemispheres. Decorative border shows the heavens at the top, the winds around the map, and unusual phenomena at the bottom, such as a volcano erupting, and a whirlpool. The world map itself includes the trade winds and the routes of several important explorations: Magellan's, Tasman's, and William Dampier's, among others. Recent discoveries in Australia and New Zealand are indicated. In North America, California is an island and "Terra Esonis" covers the northern Pacific. Made using a combination of modern technology and traditional methods, wherein an original is scanned, its likeness is digitally etched onto an engraving plate, then the plate is used to print the image in the traditional way, with a printing press. Visible plate mark. Approx. 15 x 18 inches to the border. Has some imperfections to make it look more authentic. Could be hand colored by our professional colorist for an additional cost. For other reproductions made in this method, please see the left side bar category "Digitally Engraved Specialty Reproductions".
