Genuine Antique Print

1880

Maker: Harper's Weekly

Antique black and white print from Harper's Weekly May 22, 1880 showing a wide variety of dog breeds. The 1880 Westminster Kennel Club Bench Show was a major canine exhibition held in early May at Gilmore's Garden (precursor to Madison Square Garden) in New York, featuring 395 dogs. This era (1880s) was critical in setting early breed standards. Good antique condition with some small holes at center from binding, some mild wrinkling of the old paper, and a fold at center as issued. Measures approx. 13.5 x 20 inches to the image edges. Note: any "rainbows" or strange patterns in the image are called moire effect- caused by taking a digital photo or scan of the many parallel lines in the engraved print- these are not in the print.
