Antique black and white print from Harper's Weekly December 3, 1864 showing scenes of Thanksgiving during the American Civil War. These include Abraham Lincoln holding the hands of a soldier and a sailor, scenes thanking God, and scenes of meals in the field and on board, and more. in 1863, during the Civil War, President Abraham Lincoln, encouraged by Sarah Josepha Hale, proclaimed the last Thursday in November as a regular national Thanksgiving Day. Very good antique condition with some wrinkling / creasing of the old paper, some small spots, and mild toning. A horizontal fold and vertical fold. Measures approx. 16.5 x 23 inches to the paper edges. Note: any "rainbows" or strange patterns in the image are called moire effect- caused by taking a digital photo or scan of the many parallel lines in the engraved print- these are not in the print.
