Antique black and white page of prints with text between, showing views of Newport, RI (General View of the Town, Birthplace of the Late Commodore Perry, Fort Adams, and a Scene at the Shore.) Published in the September 17, 1853 edition of Illustrated News, a short-lived New York newspaper that was acquired by Gleason's Pictorial Drawing-Room Companion in November of 1853. The "General View of the Town" is one from the water, sailboats and rowboats on the water and the skyline in the background, and the "Scene At the Shore" shows a very busy day at the beach with many people in the water, jumping into the waves, and watching from the shoreline. Good to Very good overall antique condition with some very minor toning and wrinkling of the paper, as well as some staining and spots of foxing (most visible at the left corners of the image of Fort Adams.) Page measures approximately 15.5" x 11" overall.
