Antique printed-color map of the South Pole from Stieler's Hand-Atlas, 1905. Much of Antarctica was still unknown when this map was published and no one had yet reached the South Pole. Shows telegraphs, steamer routes, pack ice, area of icebergs, explorer's routes with the date, etc. The names of places are underlines with a color that indicates which country claims that land. Smaller maps surround the central map, showing various islands. Text in German. Very good overall antique condition with toning at paper edges. Measures approx. 13.25 x 16.25 inches to the neatline.
