Genuine Antique Hand Colored Folding Map

1880

Maker: Lacodre.

Antique hand colored folding topographic map of the forest of Fontainebleau, France. Beautifully detailed, illustrated ornate border, numbered key to major sites and points of interest. The forest of Fontainebleau surrounds the town and dozens of nearby villages. It is protected by France's Office National des Forà ªts, and it is recognised as a French national park. Within the town is the Royal Chà ¢teau de Fontainebleau, an opulent former royal residence dating from 12th century. Marie Antoinett and later Napoleon, as well as many others, lived in the Chateau. This map consists of 24 small paper sheets mounted to a linen backing. Text: Claude-Franà §ois Denecourt (1788-1875) Map: Charles Colinet (1839-1905). This map was published as a non-folding map in 1895. This is the earlier version, published in 1880. Good condition, worn at folds with some tears and holes in the linen, but intact and fairly good color, some soiling. Should frame nicely. Approx. 26 x 23.5 inches overall dimensions.
