Antique print of The U.S.S. Despatch and her Convoy Passing Governor's island, as Seen from the Washington Building. The Centennial Military Parade, West Point Cadet Passing the Reviewing Stand in Madison Square. In 1889, a jubilant nation came together in New York for a gala celebration of the 100th anniversary of George Washington's inauguration. Three days of parades, fireworks, receptions, concerts-- and thousands upon thousand of participants and spectators came together for the celebration of the inauguration of President Washington one hundred years earlier. In 1789, the United States had no navy, so the scene in New York Harbor 100 years later was an impressive tribute to the growing sea power of the nation. Stunning, large black and white illustrations from the supplement to Harper's Weekly, 1889. Very good condition, 32 x 44 inches.
