Maker: Reid.
Handsome antique map of the Commonwealth about ten years after the end of the Revolutionary War, with dotted line boundaries marking the counties at that time, with topography of the Berkshires, rivers, harbors, bays and coastlines, including the Elisabeth Islands, Martha's Vineyard, Nantucket, and the "Table Lands" of the long eastern shore of Cape Cod. Interesting things to note include: Provincetown as an island, Chatham Old Harbor, C. Malabar on Monomoy, Orleans is noted as Pockee, Norfolk County does not exist and in its stead is a large Suffolk County, Hampden and Franklin Counties do not exist yet, as well as various interestingly spelled town names, such as Westfleet instead of Wellfleet. A delightful old map of the Bay State that will surely be enjoyable to discover. Very good overall antique condition, cleaned and restored, with some stains in the margins. Measures approx. 14.5 x 17.75 inches to the neatline.
