1800
Maker: Russell / Guthrie
Antique map engraved by Russell and probably from a Guthrie atlas, c. 1800. Hand-colored. A fascinating look at the United States in the early 1800s. Shows areas of Indigenous people. The states are beginning to take shape but are still very different to what we know today. Maine is strangely shaped, Indiana is shown as a small area between Ohio and Pennsylvania, several areas are marked off for different companies, including the Illinois Company, Wabash Company, and Ohio Company. Several other areas are Army Lands, and what is now Tennessee is marked "Tennassee Government". The Great Lakes are well represented. Very good antique condition with mild toning, and some minor spots mostly outside neatline. Small separation at bottom can be repaired. Measures approx. 7.25 x 8 inches to the neatline.
