Maker: Amos Doolittle, for Mathew Carey.
Antique hand colored map of Vermont, with counties delineated by color, although the northern counties are not defined as yet. This map depicts the new state of Vermont shortly after its admission to the Union in 1791. Includes Lake Champlain and Lake George. Dartmouth College, founded in 1769, is also labeled. Handsome decorative cartouche features pine trees and waterfalls. The map was published in Carey's Atlas as part of Guthrie's "Geography Improved." Very good restored condition, cleaned and backed. Signs of age remain visible including some small spots and stains and a repaired seam separation. Measures approx. 15 x 12 inches.
