Antique black and white illustration showing a view of the Pa Kaoao peak and the Haleakala crater, in present day Haleakala National Park on Maui, Hawaii. This print was published as Appendix 14 for the U.S. Coast and Geodetic Survey, 1888. The caption reads, "Gravity and Latitude Station, Pakaoao, on the summit of the Island of Maui, elev. 10032 feet. Showing observatory, trig station, pendulum house, mess tent, Magnetic and Kolekole Peaks." With two folds, as originally issued. Very good antique condition with very mild toning of the paper throughout and some minor wrinkling at the left outer edge of the paper. Image measures approximately 5.5" x 15" to the border, Page measures approx. 9.25" x 18.5" overall.
