Maker: Ernest Dudley Chase / The Philatelic Institute
Antique printed color map of the world by Ernest Dudley Chase, published by The Philatelic Institute, copyright 1959. This fun and fascinating map features images of stamps from all over the world. Queen Elizabeth, who would have been recently made queen at the time of printing, appears on many of the stamps. Around the edge of the map are stamps that could not fit on the map, labeled with their corresponding countries. Additional text elucidates the viewer about interesting philatelic facts, including the rarest stamp in the world, stamp firsts, and stamp related quotes. Details on the map will bring a smile to the stamp-loving heart: not only is the border of the map made to look like a stamp, but also the edges of the land has the same design to look like the serrated edges of a stamp and the divisions between countries resemble untorn serrations on a sheet of stamps. This delightful map has a lot to offer any philatelist- who is interested in stamp collecting or stamp history. The year in the cartouche appears to have bee typed on as though by a typewriter. Good to very good antique condition with some toning, small tears on the lower left, center left, and upper center edges, some mild smudges in the margins, and pin holes in the corners. Measures approx. 20.25 x 32.75 to the farther part of the black stamp-like edge.
