Antique hand-colored map of the globe from "Atlas of Physical Geography" by Petermann and Milner, c.1850. This piece shows maps of both the western and eastern hemispheres, focusing on the geographical features. A smaller inset map is included, "Unequal Distribution of Land and Water on the Surface of the Globe" which gives two hemispherical views of the globe (with a northern and southern bias) to better illustrate land distribution. Notation and explanations for the map are present, giving context to the images and providing graphs for greater detail on subjects such as the Height of the Principal Culminating Points of the Globe, as well as Height of the Snow Line in Different Latitudes of the Globe. Very good antique condition, with minimal foxing in the margins and some faint staining. Measures approximately 14 inches by 21 inches, as measured to edge of page (no neatline.)
