Genuine Antique Map

1854

Maker: Levasseur

Antique map of the world in hemispheres with the pacific at the center, published in the Atlas National Illustre des 86 Departments et des Possessions de la France, Divise par Arrondissements, Cantons et Communea, by Levasseur, 1854. Includes a small diagram of the solar system at bottom. With original hand-coloring by continent, except that the Americas are colored the same color. Very little was known about Antarctica at this time aside from a few small areas shown on the map. This map is somewhat large for an atlas map, measuring approx. 20.75 x 30 inches to the paper edges. Good to very good antique condition with some minor spots, some toning along the fold through the eastern hemisphere (on the left).
